Its time for a restart for this particular blog of mine. I deleted all the old posts on here because 1) they were outdated by 2+ years, 2) it contained painful memories of my ex-husband and this is a blog about my journey to becoming a midwife. So enough about that, on to the topic of becoming a midwife!
Its been a particularly long journey. I first started with Ancient Art Midwifery Institute in January of 2009 and went through a very rough patch after several months into the program. I took time off, tried to restart and nothing worked. Then, came the opportunity to officially restart with AAMI, latest curriculum, etc. So far, so good. At this point, I am once again in Phase 2, which looks like they combined part of the old Phase 3 into as well. I realize now that I need a big white board type calendar here in my office space, so that I can write down important school dates for the month. Work and school are so hard to balance, especially when you are a member of management and your spouse works for the same company (different location) as well.
I also need to start saving money and quickly. Midwifery books are so horribly expensive, I am trying every website I know to find some of the textbooks for cheaper. Carla wasn't joking when she said students would spend a good portion of their money on books. My jaw has a habit of hitting the floor at times when I go to look up a book on Amazon and see the price.
I am committed to finishing my education, even if it means taking sanity breaks here and there and staying up late or getting up earlier on the nights that I close. I am going to need a lot of support as I continue on this path, and I know I will get it from my man, my family and my wonderful friends.
